Before menopause begins, most women will experience the associated symptoms and hormone fluctuations known as perimenopause. It is not uncommon to mistake these changes for your menopause phase. However, the perimenopause stage typically lasts for months or even years prior.
At this stage, you may notice some changes in your menstrual cycle and fertility begins to decline. The primary difference between perimenopause and menopause is that you will still have a period. It is not until your period has been absent for twelve consecutive months, that you are considered to be in menopause.
